Endometriosis and Fertility: Preparing for a Joint Discussion

Bring pain symptoms and pregnancy goals into the same consultation rather than treating them as unrelated concerns.

If you have endometriosis and want to conceive, tell your doctor at the start of the appointment. A symptom-control plan and a fertility plan need to be considered together.

Bring the full history

Include previous surgery reports, scans, fertility investigations and details of medicines. Note how long you have been trying and whether pain makes intercourse difficult. These details are clinically relevant and can be discussed privately.

Ask about sequencing

If more than one treatment is proposed, ask why one should happen before another. What is the aim of surgery, medication or fertility treatment in your case? Ask about waiting time, recovery and how each step might affect the next.

Avoid universal rules

Another patient’s successful pathway may not fit your situation. Ask which findings are driving the recommendation and which decisions remain uncertain. Leave with a review date and a written summary. If different specialists are involved, ask who will coordinate the plan so advice remains consistent.
